Yorkshire sign up Tino Best

West Indies fast bowler Tino Best has been signed by Yorkshire for the County Championship until the end of May.

Best, 28, did well for Yorkshire against Lancashire on the club's recent pre-season tour of Barbados. The coaching staff and captain Andrew Gale were pleased by his enthusiasm and eagerness to use a county stint to work towards a comeback to international colours.

Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire's director of professional cricket, confirmed the deal. "Tino was in good form on our recent Caribbean trip after he contacted us to ask whether he could net with the squad in Barbados," he said.

He fitted in really well, bowled with pace and in good areas in the match he played for us over there, and his bubbly personality will be an asset in the dressing room. I'm looking forward to seeing his bowling cause problems for our opponents and I'm sure he will be a real asset to the Yorkshire side."

Best played 12 Tests for West Indies between 2003 and 2005 before losing his spot in the side. He made a comeback in 2009 when a number of first-choice players boycotted the national side due to a contractual dispute. Best has 221 first-class wickets at 26.98 runs apiece.

Though all the contractual paperwork has been completed, Best's immediate participation in the County Championship could be hampered by the disruption to international air traffic to England, after the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland. The first fixture in his contract is from April 21 to 24.
